Originally an insurance agent, Tom Clancy began his literary career in 1982 with the release of his first military thriller novel, The Hunt for Red October, which sold for $5000.

He was born in Franklin Square Hospital, Baltimore, on April 12, 1947. At first, he worked in an insurance company founded by the grandfather to his wife, which he later bought from his wife’s grandmother.

During his spare time working as the insurance agency owner, he compiled his first book.

Clancy had so much passion for being in the military, which is probably why he succeeded as a military novelist. He had joined a military training center, Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, immediately after acquiring his Bachelor’s degree at Loyola College.
