Lizzy Amanpour is a celebrity sibling who is known around the world as the sister of world-famous journalist, Christiane Amanpour.

Lizzy Amanpour is the celebrated younger sister of journalist, Christiane Amanpour. Christiane Maria Heideh Amanpour was born on 12 January 1958 and Lizzy was born a few years later. They have 2 more sisters. They are the daughter of Mohammad Taghi, an Iranian airline executive, and Patricia Anne Amanpour (née Hill) and were born in the West London suburb of Ealing. Taghi was an Iranian Shi’ite Muslim from Tehran. Patricia was Roman Catholic.

After completing a larger part of their primary school education in Iran, Lizzy & Christiane were sent to a boarding school in England. They attended Holy Cross Convent, an all-girls school in Chalfont Saint Peter, Buckinghamshire.  They later attended New Hall School, a Roman Catholic school in Chelmsford, Essex. Lizzy and her family returned to England not long after the Islamic Revolution began and ultimately remained in England, finding it difficult to return to Iran. After leaving New Hall, Christiane moved to the United States to study journalism at the University of Rhode Island. During her time there, she worked in the news department at WBRU-FM in Providence, Rhode Island. She also worked as an electronic graphics designer for NBC affiliate WJAR in Providence. In 1983, she graduated from the university summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. degree in journalism.

In 1998, Christiane married James Phillip Rubin, former diplomat, and journalist who served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs in the Clinton Administration from 1997–2000. Their son, Darius John Rubin, was born on March 27, 2000. In July 2018, the couple announced they were divorcing.

Lizzy was set to join the Arabic satellite television news channel Al-Jazeera for its English-language service, yet maintains a low profile. Christiane is a famous journalist and television host. She is the Chief International Anchor for CNN and host of CNN International’s nightly interview program Amanpour. She is also the host of Amanpour & Company on PBS.

Christiane was the recipient of numerous honors, including an Edward R. Murrow Award (2002). In 2007 she was named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). Since April 2015 she has served as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Freedom of Expression and journalist safety.
